Angie Hamson
Angie Hamson is a parent of a child with a complex medical history and a patient herself. She has a background and education in gerontology and psychology.
Since 2011, Angie has been an active Patient Partner and Family Advisor at CHEO, where she is currently the Past Chair of the Family Advisory Council. She collaborates with senior leadership, where she champions patient partnership, people-centred care, and virtual health. Angie was a member of CHEO’s Incident Management Team, which led CHEO’s response and leadership through the pandemic. She has partnered with CHEO on master planning and master programming, and in ongoing work with their MyChart patient portal. She also sits on the Kids Come First Health Team’s Steering Committee and co-chairs the Youth, Family, and Caregiver Partner Working Group.
She has been a member of Patients for Patient Safety Canada since 2017 and has supported advocacy initiatives to further patient safety. Angie co-designed the People-Centred Care Leadership Program with HealthCareCAN, which combines leading research and knowledge about people-centred care and engagement with concrete, practical tools. Angie also sat on the Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework committee, which oversaw the development of a nationally adopted Framework that aligns Canada on “five goals for quality, safe care”.
Angie works as a Patient Engagement Officer at CADTH, Canada’s drug and health technology agency. She supports and facilitates engagement in health technology assessment, including in health technology reviews, scientific advice, and post-market drug evaluation.
